Design, Build...and Read?: An Optical Construction Project

One of our recently completed projects was for De’ Cordova Eyewear near Lake Houston. Dr. Kerri-Ann Hodges wanted a vision center that brought her vision to life. Part of that vision was making people’s lives better providing clear sight and enlightening minds. Hence the slogan: Enlightening Eyes.

If you ever go into this vision center, you’ll really enjoy the tie-in with optical solutions, like countless eyewear frames, and various books for reading (and for sale). Now the slogan is really making sense, huh?

A Vision Center/Bookstore

Dr. Hodges wanted a optometry office that felt like a combination of a vision center and a bookstore. Set up with reading areas, a ladder to reach books, rich dark woods, and fresh coffee, patients will have their fill of coffee, knowledge, and great eyewear options.

Our design team wanted to create something that brought all those ideas together and we think we nailed it. The various bookshelves we created and placed were able to be utilized not only for books, but for the frames. Check it out.

Coloring, Backsplash, and Cool Lighting

De’Cordova Eyewear gives a warm feeling with its bluish and gray tones, and dark woods throughout. In the lobby, the front desk is backed with a nice white faux-brick backsplash that really pops in the office.

Throughout the entire facility is cool lighting, from canned lights to small spotlight fixtures. Over the main desk where customers can try on eye frames, an intricate and rather elaborate light hangs.

Everything ties together nicely to create a welcoming atmosphere for Dr. Hodges’ patients. The color scheme and warmth doesn’t end with the lobby. That extends when patients make the corner down the hall into one of the patient rooms.

Design with Vision in Mind

Our design and build team had a great time building out this incredible vision center. Working with clients on their visions and establishing what is possible is what makes our job such a pleasure.

We enjoy the whole design and build process, which allows us to meet with clients, discuss their vision and goals, and establish a trusting relationship that is sealed by delivering on expectations. If you’re considering opening your own optometry facility, consider HM General Contractors. We look forward to building for you.
